The Saint City Journal
Cuts, beards, and grooming guides for St. George
Long-form articles from our chairs — built for the desert climate, the local lifestyle, and anyone who cares about their hair and beard.
The Saint City Journal is the long-form companion to our chairs. Every article is written from the perspective of a working barber in St. George, Utah — what we see in the chair Monday through Saturday, the questions guests ask while the cape goes on, and the small adjustments that keep a haircut or beard looking sharp through a southern Utah summer.
We publish guides on fades, beards, hot towel shaves, kids' cuts, wedding-day grooming, product choices, and the climate-specific care that matters when you live somewhere that hits 110°F in July and dry single-digit humidity in January. The goal isn't volume — it's articles you'd actually save and send to a friend before their first appointment.
If you're new to the shop, start with our first-visit guide. If you came here from a search for a specific problem ("how often should I get a fade," "how to keep a beard from getting brittle in the desert," "what to bring to a barber for a wedding"), use the categories below to jump straight to the right shelf.
Have a topic you wish we'd cover? Email the shop with the subject line "Journal idea" — many of our most-read pieces started as a question from a regular. We update older articles when techniques, products, or local conditions change, so the date you see on each post reflects the last meaningful edit, not just the original publish date.
